Title: Exuviae of louse Author/s: Gaetano Scanni

CLINICAL DATA

-Clinical description:

Schoolboy suffering of persistent head lice. This is an example, fortunately rare, of an infestation left undisturbed for several months in a very economically disadvantaged family. Probably poor personal hygiene and the high presence of parasites allowed to find exuviae of an nymph, event never happened in years of school visits of OPS (Osservatorio Parassitosi Scolastiche).

-Dermoscopic description:

Integument of the nymph probably result of molt from stage II to III. It is recognizable thoracic and abdominal segment whose caudal extreme shows the typical lateral side waves.

-Comment:

The size of the exuviae and its white colour can be confused with the keratin material of the scalp (darduff). But dermoscopy can easily diagnose the anatomical shapes of the louse nymph.
